Rules For Drafts

Each year, before the season begins, we will conduct a draft to fill out the remaining 19 spots on our rosters (in addition to our 7 keepers). The draft differs from the standard live Yahoo! snake draft in the following ways:
  • A draft lottery will occur each season to determine who earns the top pick. It will include any expansion teams and the bottom four finishers from the previous season.
  • Regardless of the outcome of the lottery, any expansion teams will automatically earn the top pick in the draft order for all rounds after the first round. So if an expansion team earns the third pick in round one, they'll be moved up to first starting in round two, with the top two teams in round one each moving down one spot in the order.
  • The rest of the draft order will be determined by reversing the previous season's standings. The previous year's winner will pick last.
  • The draft will not snake. The order remains the same each round.
  • Managers may trade picks during the draft, either for other picks or for players.
If a team acquires more picks than they have roster spots, they will only make selections until their roster is full, losing their late-round picks. For instance, if a team acquires an extra 4th-round selection, they will fill their roster in the second-last (18th) round, and will not make a 19th-round selection.

If a team trades away draft picks, leaving them with fewer picks than roster spots, they will receive additional picks in supplemental rounds at the end of the draft. For instance, if a team traded away their 4th-round selection, they will be one player short at the end of the draft, and will receive a pick in a supplemental 20th round.

Expansion teams lacking keepers will also participate in the supplemental rounds. The supplemental rounds will maintain the same order as the rest of the draft, until every team's roster is full.

Note: The 2010 draft had 20 rounds, plus the supplemental rounds, since the rookie keeper rule had not been placed in effect yet.
